'shot'
04/04 For
most of us, walking into a commercial gallery is a bit like window shopping:
we may like what we see but chances are we can't really afford it. 'shot'
came about from this idea. It presents a collection of contemporary
photography at a high enough standard to be exhibited in a gallery but
at a low enough price that gives the 'window shopper' the chance to
own a piece.
The work has been produced by two professional graphic designers, Jon Kennedy and Ioannis Athanassiades from TEAMUP design in Lefkosia. 'shot' was conceived as a personal project which designers sometimes choose to work on outside their day jobs, in order to stay creative and maintain a fresh perspective in their commercial work. Both photographers used very different equipment in putting together the exhibition, with Ioannis using digital media and Jon preferring film and a 16 year old manual camera. The exhibition presents a mix of colour and black & white prints looking at urban environments within Cyprus. One style visits the dusty and reflective shop windows and their faded advertising of long forgotten products in Old Lefkosia, whilst the second style focuses on a sense of stillness, with the light sometimes eerie, falling on streets and abandoned structures at times when their usual inhabitants are elsewhere. 'shot', two man photographic exhibition, is on now at the Fotodos Gallery in Lefkosia Old Town (Wed-Fri 5-10pm / Sat & Sun 11am-8pm) and continues until the 2nd of May. -see flyer in 'What's On'- Each photograph on show is priced at £55 and limited to 5 prints. Furthermore, 10% from every print sale will be donated to The Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends. |
