| I
am a visual artist working primarily with drawing and sound. Work includes
2D and 3D pencil/digital drawings, installation and performance (usually
with the piano). The common thread in my work is the combination and interpretation of drawing through sound and vice versa. Enjoying systems and canons, I look to create new methods from pre-existing ones. I combine, recreate and deconstruct my drawings whether 2d or 3d. Being methodical by nature, I believe the time I spent living in Cyprus crucial to my artistic development. My urge to analyze and measure my subject matter began here where I was taught the technicalities of measuring busts of ancient Greek gods. Receiving piano lessons in which Mozart and Bach were taught, further installed my interests in balance, equality and relationships between one and the whole. In my work, this can be interpreted as relationships between one drawn line to another, one form to another etc. I began combining drawing with music at Camberwell College of Arts, creating a hybrid of the two. It is this reinterpretation of one through the other that fascinates me. This working method has produced sound pieces from drawings, which I perform on piano. The main artists and musicians I look up to are Sol LeWitt, John Cage and Xenakis. |
